How to Get Rid of Ducks in my Swimming Pool

Are you looking to get rid of ducks in your pool? While these feathered creatures may be cute from a distance, their presence in your pool can be disruptive and unsanitary...

Well, you've come to the right place! We will be covering the top strategies to keep the ducks away. Let's explore some practical strategies for maintaining a duck-free pool environment.

How to Get Rid of Ducks in Swimming Pool & Understanding Duck Behaviour:

We all know ducks are naturally drawn to bodies of water for various reasons, including foraging, resting, and nesting. So by first understanding the factors that attract them to your pool, you can develop targeted approaches to deter their presence.

Utilise Pool Covers:

Investing in a high-quality pool cover serves as a proactive measure to prevent ducks from accessing the water. Make sure your cover is securely fastened and of appropriate size to eliminate potential entry points.

Fencing Solutions:

Placing a secure fence (or barrier!) around your pool can quite effectively discourage ducks from entering the area. More specifically, fencing with narrow gaps and a sufficient height stop access.

Introduce Disturbances:

Ducks will always prefer calm and undisturbed waters. By introducing deterrents such as motion-activated sprinkler systems, suction cleaners or pool robots, you can disrupt their comfort and encourage them to seek alternative habitats.

Deploy Visual Deterrents:

Visual deterrents, including reflective surfaces and decoy predators, exploit ducks' instinctual fear responses to potential threats. Strategic placement of these deterrents around the pool perimeter can effectively discourage activity.

Eliminate Food Sources:

Ducks are attracted to areas with food resources. By minimising the availability of food scraps and bird feeders in the vicinity of your pool, you will be able to discourage their presence.

Maintain Pool Chemistry:

Ducks are sensitive to changes in water quality and are deterred by the smell and taste of chlorine. Regularly monitor and maintain proper pool chemistry to create an environment less conducive to waterfowl activity.

We recommend getting a wonderful chemical called, Duck Off, to keep your ducks at bay. As the chemical weighs down on the duck's feathers, it makes them uncomfortable in the water causing them to move to a different location. The great news is, it also doesn't hurt them in any way.

Persistence and Patience:

In order to achieve long-term success, persistence and patience will be your friend. Ensuring you implement a combination of deterrent methods and consistently enforcing them will gradually discourage ducks from entering your pool.

There you have it! By understanding duck behaviour and implementing appropriate deterrent measures, you can get your pool space back to a clean oasis. Remember, consistency and perseverance is key! This will ensure to get rid of ducks in your swimming pool.
